Good Contract in Tough Times

Yesterday, members of the University of Akron AAUP chapter ratified a contract with the administration. 

Chapter Profile: University of Akron

The AAUP chapter at the University of Akron in Ohio was established in 1932 and chartered as a collective bargaining chapter in 2003. It represents more than 750 full-time tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty members. In January, the chapter ratified its second contract, which includes raises in the first two years, improvements in benefits and governance provisions, and a comprehensive article on non-tenure-track faculty.

AAUP Adds University of Akron to COVID-19 Governance Investigation

The University of Akron has been added to the AAUP’s ongoing investigation of the crisis in academic governance that has occurred in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Association’s concerns regard actions taken by the University of Akron administration to terminate the appointments of ninety-six full-time faculty members in a manner that appears to have departed from normative standards of academic governance.
