New AAUP Staff Members

By Kelly Hand

The AAUP has welcomed four new staff members over the past several months.

Mark Bostic joined the Department of Organizing and Services as director. Bostic brings to this role almost two decades of experience with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT)—most recently as director of its Organizing and Field Services Department—and related experience as a consultant to unions and labor organizations and as a part-time lecturer at the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations. He will manage the AAUP’s organizing team and strategy, leading joint efforts with the AFT and ongoing work to build and strengthen collective bargaining and advocacy chapters.

Ruben Guzman joined the Department of Research as research assistant. Having previously worked on a salary survey for the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, Guzman will provide research and administrative support for the AAUP’s annual Faculty Compensation Survey and other research projects.

Austin Rhea joined the Department of External Relations as communications assistant. Drawing on work experience with the University of Virginia special collections library, a local historical museum, and a law firm, Rhea will provide editorial and administrative support for the AAUP’s publications, website, and general communications.

Jenna Sablan joined the Department of External Relations as senior program officer for government relations. Previously an assistant research professor at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce and an education policy fellow for the US Senate’s Budget Committee, Sablan will focus primarily on federal higher education policy.
