AAUP Condemns Assault and Arrest of David Huerta

The AAUP condemns the brutal assault and illegal arrest of David Huerta, vice-president of the California Federation of Labor Unions and president of SEIU California and SEIU-USSW. Huerta’s arrest while bearing witness to the wildly cruel and destructive attacks on immigrant workers by Trump’s masked paramilitary agents underscores how Trump’s authoritarian, irresponsible, and xenophobic deportation policies are wreaking chaos in communities from coast to coast. Immigrant workers are essential to our society and immigrant rights and working peoples’ rights are intrinsically intertwined. The AAUP demands the immediate release of David Huerta and the immediate cessation of these violent and reckless ICE raids that are terrorizing hardworking families. An injury to one is an injury to all.
