2019 AAUP Updates

01.28.2019 | Proposed Changes To Title IX Regulations Fail To Protect Academic Freedom and Shared Governance

AAUP submitted comments today on amendments proposed by the Department of Education to the regulations governing the implementation of Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in federally funded education programs. The proposed regulations ultimately fail to specify the importance of academic freedom and shared governance for Title IX proceedings. Moreover, we object to proposed regulations that unduly narrow the scope of protections against sexual harassment.

01.22.2019 | Academe Now on Quarterly Schedule

Academe has moved to a quarterly publication schedule, with print issues mailing in February, May, August, and October.

01.18.2019 | Support for LA Teachers

The Executive Committee of the AAUP Collective Bargaining Congress sent a letter today to LA schools superintendent Austin Beutner urging him to return to the bargaining table with UTLA and to cease the expansion of charter schools in Los Angeles.
