12.22.2015 | Nominating Committee Issues Final Report for 2016 Council Elections

The nominatio​ns period for the 2016 governing council election has closed and the Nominating Committee issued its final report on Dec 21.

12.14.2015 | Unanimous Vote: Part-time Faculty Emerson College’s Los Angeles Campus Win Union Representation

22 part-time faculty at the Los Angeles campus of Emerson College overwhelmingly won a National Labor Relations Board-supervised election for union representation, choosing to be represented by the American Association of University Professors.

In a statement issued today, the AAUP and three other groups support efforts to make college campuses as safe and weapon-free as possible. We oppose “campus carry” laws and encourage colleges and universities to embrace critical incident planning that includes faculty and staff and to advise all faculty and staff of these plans. 

11.05.2015 | Developments in the University of Wisconsin System

The AAUP issued a statement about policies drafted by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents following the removal of tenure and shared governance protections from Wisconsin state law. In spite of prior assurances by the Regents that policies would respect AAUP standards and principles, recommendations currently under consideration include proposals for post-tenure review that raise serious concerns.

11.04.2015 | Brief Supports Diversity in Admissions

Joining in an amicus brief filed by the American Council on Education on October 30 in the US Supreme Court case of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, the AAUP reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to promoting the educational value of diversity. This is the second time the Supreme Court has considered Fisher’s challenge to the use of race as a consideration in the University of Texas’s holistic admissions process and the fourth time the AAUP has joined an amicus brief in the case.
