Why STEM Students Need Gender Studies

Recent university budget reductions and debates about improving efficiencies in higher education have encouraged speculation about the relative values of different disciplines. Critics argue that the humanities and social sciences are less valuable than science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields because they do not generate the same levels of external research funding, donations, and municipal investment.

AAUP Subcommittee Statement on Redefinition of Gender

Today the American Association of University Professors’ Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure joined with the Committee on Women in the Academic Profession to release a statement regarding the reported move by the Trump administration to promulgate a new legal definition of gender under Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in federally funded education programs.

AAUP Supports University of Oregon Faculty Member's Claims Of Gender-Based Pay Disparity

The AAUP has filed an amicus brief in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in support of Jennifer Freyd, who sued the University of Oregon for pay discrimination based on significant pay disparities with male faculty members.
