Chapter Training: Improving Your Digital Communications with Email Programs and Websites

Join us for a training covering the basics of using a digital communication tool like Action Network to run email campaigns, letter campaigns, and petitions. We will also discuss common website platforms like WordPress and Wix. Participants will be asked to take a survey in advance of the training to help hone in on chapter-specific issues.

Advocacy Chapter Training: AAUP Policy Basics

This training is designed for chapter and conference leaders and field staff interested in learning about a primary role of AAUP chapters: working for the incorporation of AAUP standards on academic freedom, tenure, and governance into the institution’s faculty handbook. Which of these standards should a chapter focus on and how are they best understood?

Chapter Training: Social Media Basics

In this training for chapter and conference leaders, we’ll give an overview of engaging with campus community/members via Facebook and Twitter, and go over the pros/cons of public pages vs. private groups. We’ll delve into storytelling techniques and creating compelling messages for social media.

Chapter Training: Advocacy Chapter Management

Whether you are just forming an AAUP chapter or you are part of an established one, this session will give you the practical tools you need to manage an effective organization. We will review some key areas of chapter management, from chapter by-laws and finances to officer roles and establishing chapter programs, in addition to answering questions from participants. This training is for officers of AAUP advocacy (non-unionized) chapters.

Chapter Training: State-Level Government Relations

This training will give an overview of running an effective state-level lobbying program. We’ll also discuss legislation we are seeing in many states that seeks to restrict teaching about race and history. It is intended for chapter and conference leaders who are interested in starting or jumpstarting a state-level lobbying program.

In this training for chapter and conference leaders, we’ll give an overview of a media program, discuss amplifying your message, compiling press lists, building relationships, sending press releases, and general messaging best practices. We’ll also go over spokesperson best practices and techniques.
