AAUP Foundation Grants

By Kelly Hand

The AAUP Foundation awarded a grant to the AAUP to help defray costs associated with the 2016 Shared Governance Conference and Workshops, to be held in Washington, DC, September 30–October 2. The conference will include presentations on topics relating to college and university governance and a series of training workshops for current and future governance leaders.

An additional Foundation grant to the AAUP assisted with the outside counsel costs associated with preparing an amicus brief submitted to the US Supreme Court in the 2016 case of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin. The brief, filed jointly with the American Council on Education and thirty-six other higher education organizations, argued that consideration of race in the admissions process is appropriate. The “Legal Watch” column in this issue discusses the Court’s recent decision to uphold the constitutionality of the University of Texas at Austin’s affirmative action program.

The AAUP Foundation awarded a grant to Kovno Communications on behalf of Abby Ginzberg and Frank Dawson, coproducers of the film Agents of Change, to support screenings for AAUP chapters and conferences. (See “Summer Institute,” above, for a description of the film.)
