Well in advance of the biennial delegate meeting, the national AAUP notifies eligible chapters of the opportunity to participate in a section. The AAUP provides sample procedures, instructions, guidance, and other material for operating the section, such as lists of eligible chapters and of members in those chapters, sample nomination and election notices, and sample ballots. In addition, state conferences and chapters may assist the section, though the chapter or state conference elections cannot substitute for the election of section delegates.
Only one section can be formed per state. All participating chapters must be within the same state, and all eligible chapters in the state must be given the opportunity to join the section.
Each section must have a section coordinator. The section coordinator is the point of contact for the section for the national AAUP and section chapters. The section coordinator will help distribute notices, coordinate with chapters, and conduct any delegate elections. The section coordinator does not need to be an AAUP member or a member of a chapter in the section. The section coordinator can be a delegate for the section, but must meet delegate requirements and go through the normal delegate election process.
