The EMU-‐AAUP (the Eastern Michigan Chapter of the American Association of University Professors) and Eastern Michigan University have tentatively agreed on a 4-‐ year contract. The current contract is set to expire on August 31, 2015. The next step is for the faculty to vote on the contract, which will occur in early September. The EMU Board of Regents will vote on approving the contract as well. If approved by both parties, the contract would be effective through August 31, 2019.
The contract includes raises of 2.5% per year for each year of the contract, as well as changes in health care payments. The contract also includes additional support and incentives for faculty research.
EMU-‐AAUP President Susan Moeller, who was the chief negotiator for the AAUP, said: “We are very pleased with this agreement, as both sides made compromises to arrive at an agreement that is beneficial to the faculty, students, and administration. There was a spirit of cooperation throughout the negotiations, and for the second straight negotiation, we were able to complete the process several weeks before the contract expired.”
Howard Bunsis, treasurer of the EMU-‐AAUP, stated: “we believe that this contract respects the contribution faculty make to the education of our students at Eastern Michigan University, and we also believe the contract respects the economic challenges faced by our students and their families here in Southeastern Michigan.”
