CB Chapter Mobilization Fund

The recent challenges to the academic labor movement have made it more important than ever for chapters to mobilize. To support the work of our chapters, the AAUP has set aside a special grant fund dedicated to chapter organizing and member mobilization. Any AAUP collective bargaining chapter in good standing may apply.

To apply for a grant from the CB Chapter Mobilization Fund, the chapter should provide a short explanation of how much grant funding is being requested and how the grant funds will be used to support the costs of the chapter’s organizing program or other mobilization efforts. Examples include: offsetting chapter staff organizer costs, purchasing supplies required for organizing, subscription fees to digital services that support organizing, and supporting course releases for faculty organizers. A short paragraph should suffice. Please note that grant awards will not exceed a maximum of $20,000 per calendar year.

As additional documentation, the chapter should include either 1) a copy of the chapter’s plan for member organizing, if such a document exists or 2) a one-page summary (bullet points are recommended) of the chapter’s organizing or mobilization goals and plan to achieve those goals in the coming academic year. The chapter must also include the most recent copy of any audited financial statements.

Grants are awarded by the AAUP Council. Council will review grant applications at their quarterly meetings, which generally occur in the following months: March, June, August, and November (check our events page for specific dates). We accept applications on a rolling basis but encourage applicants to submit them at least a month in advance of a quarterly meeting to ensure prompt review.

Please direct all grant applications and questions to Shawn Fields.
