AAUP Advocacy Local 6741 of the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO
Officers and Delegates to the 2026 American Federation of Teachers Convention Nominations are being sought for the following positions: local officers (president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, and two executive committee members) and up to twenty-five delegates to the 2026 American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Convention, to take place in Washington, D.C., from July 16 to July 19, 2026. Officers and delegates will attend and represent the local at the convention.
All elected officers shall serve as delegates to the AFT Convention, and the local will elect up to twenty-five additional delegates. Any member who is in good standing is eligible to be nominated, or to nominate another member, as an officer or delegate. A member may self-nominate for the position. Candidates will have an opportunity to campaign for office and campaign rights are set forth in the local’s election rules adopted by the local’s executive committee.
On all roll call votes at the convention, the local shall be entitled to a number of votes equal to the average membership as defined in Article VII, Section 3 of the AFT Constitution and Bylaws. The votes of the local shall be distributed evenly among the delegates present at the time of voting.
Local delegates are not entitled to compensation for serving as delegates, but they may be entitled to reimbursement for some or all of their reasonable expenses incurred in traveling to the convention.
The term of office for officer positions is two years. The officers elected will serve a term from the scheduled date of the election until the date of the election of successor officers. Officer duties are described in the local’s constitution. The delegate(s) elected will serve a term from the date of the election until the close of the AFT convention for which they are elected. The election will be governed by the local’s constitution, and the local’s election rules adopted by the local’s executive committee.
Nominations for local officers and delegates must be made in writing and sent either by email or by US mail and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 2, 2026.

In the event that there is only one nominee for each position at the time when ballots are to be distributed, that nominee will be considered elected by acclamation and no ballot vote will be held.
In the event of a ballot election, a notice of election will be mailed to the last known home address of each local member.
