Title VI Report Discussion and PARCEO Training

AAUP members are invited to join the AAUP and PARCEO for the release of a new report on Title VI and a training on antisemitism. The AAUP’s Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure will discuss a new report addressing the issue of discrimination in higher education and the recent surge in US Department of Education investigations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal funding. The report examines the question of whether the targeted speech, expression, and programming qualify as legally actionable discrimination. It also directly addresses the severity and scale of the Trump administration’s attempts to redefine discrimination and, in the process, to erode democratic norms on and off campus. The report’s primary authors will review its findings.

We’ll also be joined by PARCEO, which provides training on research and organizing for social justice that is rooted in a community’s own knowledge, wisdom, and experience. Together with educators, historians, and organizers, PARCEO created the “Curriculum on Antisemitism from a Framework of Collective Liberation.” The curriculum is devoted to understanding antisemitism (what it is and what it is not) and challenging it grounded in a deep commitment to justice and dignity for all people.

AAUP members can check their email for registration information.  Registration closes on 9/18 at 6 p.m. ET.
