From coast to coast, higher education workers are rising up against the Trump administration’s unprecedented war on our colleges and universities. This May Day, a massive wave of resistance is demanding a system that actually serves the public good: one that is affordable, protects scientific research, free speech, and academic freedom from political assault, and stands up for students' right to learn.
The Trump administration’s war on our universities is an attack on democracy itself. From freezing billions in scientific research funding to the targeting and kidnapping of students and faculty by ICE, this administration is trying to dismantle a public good that is a crucial bedrock of a functioning democracy.
Our institutions should be engines of opportunity for the working class, supporting students, workers, and communities alike, not indoctrination centers operating in service of an ideological agenda. The time is now to reclaim our universities.
