CAUT Censures University

By Jordan E. Kurland

The AAUP’s list of censured administrations is published regularly by the Canadian Association of University Teachers in its CAUT Bulletin, and we in turn have agreed to inform the AAUP membership of CAUT’s censure actions.

This, then, is to report that the First Nations University of Canada was placed on censure by the CAUT Council in November 2008. Censure by CAUT, similar to AAUP censure, “means that CAUT has concluded that a university board and administration have breached one or several of the fundamental principles of academic freedom and governance which CAUT believes to be indispensable to the proper functioning of a university.”

Information on the First Nations University censure can be obtained at www.caut.ca/news_details.asp?nid=1195&page=490.
