The AAUP welcomed new staff members in our organizing and finance departments in recent months.
Carla Villanueva, the new director of the Department of Organizing and Services, comes to the AAUP with over a decade of experience at major labor organizations—including the Service Employees International Union, the Teamsters, and the United Auto Workers (UAW)—and with hands-on experience in higher education. She coordinated the UAW’s Our Labor, Our Movement training program, which equipped organizers in Western states with tools and knowledge to build sustainable movements. Carla’s proven campaign leadership and strategic acumen will be key factors in amplifying current initiatives, spearheading new endeavors, and maintaining the AAUP’s status as a leader in faculty organizing and an authority in the higher education labor sector.
Trevor Bass, a senior accountant, and Udeme (Ude) Usoroh, a staff accountant, also joined the staff this spring. Trevor and Ude previously provided essential financial and administrative assistance as long-term contractors for the AAUP.
