COVID-19 Response Fund Offers Aid to Chapters

By Kelly Hand

The AAUP has established a fund to support chapters that have incurred unexpected expenses because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 Response Fund will make grants of up to $15,000 available to chapters during fiscal year 2021. Chapters may seek funding for activities and expenses that aim to lessen the impact of the pandemic on faculty members on a particular campus or in the profession as a whole. Examples of eligible expenses include support for pandemic-related arbitration and lawsuits; issue organizing around the impact of the pandemic on campus; and events or studies that help to educate members, administrations, and campus communities about the impact of the COVID-19 crisis.

To apply for a grant, an AAUP chapter must be in good standing with the AAUP and must submit an application along with chapter financial statements and any other necessary documentation. The AAUP staff will review applications on a quarterly basis and submit recommendations for funding to the national Council for review and approval. Information about the fund is available in the chapter resources section of the AAUP website at https://www.aaup.org/chapter-resources/all.
