Clarified Policy on Dues Payment and Chapter Voting Strength

At its November 2014 meetings, the AAUP national Council clarified the following policy:

Policy on Payment of Dues for the Determination of Chapter Voting Strength
In keeping with the Weighted Voting Procedures, the May 1 Institutional Recap used to determine the number of weighted votes cast by each chapter at the AAUP annual meeting will reflect the number of qualified chapter members in good standing for whom the chapter has paid first quarter dues as of May 1 of the year of the annual meeting.  In order for chapter members to be in good standing, the AAUP national office must receive all payments owed through the first quarter by May 1.

Chapter members are considered “current” at the time of the annual meeting only if all national dues have been paid through the first quarter (ending March 31) of the given calendar year.

These first quarter dues serve as the basis for the May 1 “Institutional Recap” used to determine the number of qualified members per institution for the purpose of a Weighted Vote under the AAUP Constitution and Council procedures (Weighted Voting Procedures, as amended by Council June 2014, par. 4).

Please note that under this policy, a chapter will not be considered in good standing for purposes of a weighted vote if dues are received after May 1.
