2015 AAUP Updates

Barbara Hopkins, professor of economics  at Wright State University, has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the AAUP’s Georgina M. Smith Award. The award will be presented at the June 13 Awards Luncheon.

The AAUP urges the University of Wisconsin regents and system president to fight against budget language that would remove tenure and due process procedures from state statutes and severely curtail due process rights for University of Wisconsin faculty and academic staff.

This year’s conference has special significance as the AAUP marks the Association’s centennial. Members of the media are welcome to attend.

The Brown Award is given to American college or university administrators or trustees “in recognition of an outstanding contribution to shared governance." This award will be presented at the AAUP's Award luncheon on Saturday, June 13.

The Molotsky Award will be presented at the AAUP's Award Luncheon on Saturday, June 13.

Both institutions were found to have violated AAUP-supported standards.

“The dismissal of Professor Salaita has roiled the UIUC community and much of academia; it is one of the more significant violations of academic freedom this decade," said Henry Reichman.

In a mail-in vote, affiliated faculty voted 184-3 to ratify a new contract. The new collectively bargained contract includes up to a 30% increase in some faculty’s pay, doubles professional development funding awards, and provides better job security.
