Support for LA Teachers

The Executive Committee of the AAUP Collective Bargaining Congress sent a letter today to the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Austin Beutner, urging him to return to the bargaining table with United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and to cease the expansion of charter schools in Los Angeles. The letter echoes UTLA's opposition to a privatization model that has led to the closure of neighborhood schools and undermined academic freedom. It notes that the proliferation of charter schools, driven by donations from wealthy benefactors to the California Charter Schools Association, has hit low-income students hardest. The AAUP-CBC Executive Committee stands in solidarity with UTLA faculty colleagues fighting for AAUP principles and quality education.
