Fund Teaching, Not Perks

As the California Faculty Association plans one-day strikes at two campuses, the AAUP issued the following statement of support:

In the midst of a deepening budget crisis, the chancellor of the California State University system continues to believe that student fees should be raised to pay for administrators’ salaries and benefits. The California Faculty Association, which represents faculty members at the 24-campus system, believes instead that teaching should be the first priority. As two independent fact-finders have agreed, at least part of the modest salary increases agreed to in the faculty contract should be paid. And administrative excess should be trimmed to hold the line on student fees. The AAUP supports our California colleagues in the one-day strikes planned for November 17 at two campuses, CSU East Bay and CSU Dominguez Hills.
