AAUP Urges Search, Faculty Participation for Kennesaw State University President

Today, the AAUP urged the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to conduct a national search for the president of Kennesaw State University with full participation from faculty. The letter points out the board of regents' decision to recommend the appointment of attorney general Samuel Olens without a full search or faculty input is at odds with widely observed principles of academic governance. The board of regents' next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.

The AAUP advocates for meaningful faculty participation in institutional governance, including in presidential searches. The AAUP's most recent governance investigation looked at the University of Iowa's hiring of Bruce Harreld and resulted in the University of Iowa falling on the AAUP list of sanctioned institutions.
