Faculty Anti-Privatization Network Conference Call

Join us for the inaugural conference call of the Faculty Anti-Privatization Network, a network of faculty dedicated to sharing information about privatization at their colleges and universities as well as strategies for protecting shared governance and academic freedom during privatization. The network is especially focused on privatization of the online classroom--although AAUP faculty are acutely aware of the privatization of housing, parking, bookstores, and many other campus services.

Today, the online classroom is where some of the most widespread and problematic privatization efforts in higher education take place. As corporate-run online programs are developed at more and more colleges and universities across the country, administrators often emphasize increased access to higher education as a core value of online initiatives. When this happens, emphasis on the quality of education sometimes gets lost. Now, faculty are stepping up to ask: If online education programs focus simply on increasing the number of students, without consideration for quality, are students really being well served?

You'll learn about privatization in the online classroom at colleges and universities across the country and what your chapter can do this fall to protect shared governance and academic freedom. Guest speakers will share information and resources from 1:00-1:45 PM ET followed by a Q&A session. After you RSVP, you'll be able to submit your questions in advance on a discussion board.
