ASC Nominating Committee Final Report

January 24, 2018

The members of the Nominating Committee are:

John Hinshaw, Chair, Lebanon Valley College
Kathryn Kuhn, Saint Louis University
Alex Zukas, National University

The committee worked collaboratively to recruit and review candidates for the 2018 ASC election. Electronic notices were sent to all members in states with active conferences on November 8, December 11 and December 18. In addition, multiple call-for-nominations emails were sent to various national and state leadership bodies of the AAUP, and complete information was posted on the AAUP website and social media sites.

In 2018, the ASC membership will elect three ASC Executive Committee members: Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary. The position of Chair will be elected by mail ballot in advance of the Annual Meeting. The positions of Vice Chair and Secretary will be elected by delegates to the June 15 ASC Business Meeting in Arlington, VA. Nominations for Vice Chair and Secretary may also be made from the floor of the June ASC Business Meeting, provided that nominees receive written endorsement from no fewer than three authorized delegates to the Assembly. Those forms will be available to members before the start of the ASC Business Meeting.

The Nominating Committee sought to find at least two candidates for each position. The process resulted in one candidate for the position of Chair, three candidates for the position of Vice Chair, and six candidates for the position of Secretary. The list of candidates is below.

Election of ASC Officers

The election for the offices of Vice Chair and Secretary will take place at the ASC Business Meeting on June 15 in Arlington, VA. Both positions shall be elected by a majority vote of delegates present and voting at the time of the casting of ballots.  If there is no majority for an office after an initial balloting, the voting shall take place immediately again. No candidates shall be dropped from the voting unless they withdraw voluntarily.

The election for the office of Chair will take place by secret mail ballot, in conjunction with the 2018 AAUP National elections. Ballots will be sent to AAUP members resident in states with active State Conferences to enable voting to be completed by April 15, as per the ASC Constitution.
