Guidebooks, Newsletters, and Brochures

The AAUP publishes a variety of guidebooks, newsletters, and brochures. Guidebooks covering such topics as salary equity, pregnancy discrimination, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and navigating faculty appointments can be ordered from the AAUP store. AAUP members receive a discount.

New Edition of Guide to Faculty Handbooks

Each year, the AAUP fields inquiries about what legal role a faculty handbook might play in resolving employment questions and larger questions about an administration’s actions. In response to these inquiries, we have developed a state-by-state guide to the legal treatment of handbooks. This guide is intended to be a quick reference for professors, administrators, and lawyers. The guide has previously been available for sale; this year, in a time of financial and employment uncertainty, we are pleased to offer it as a free download.

Guide to Unemployment Benefits

Access to Unemployment Insurance Benefits for Contingent Faculty offers advice for individual contingent faculty members as well as a discussion of strategies for changing policies regarding access to unemployment benefits. The guidebook can be purchased for $6 in the AAUP Store. Its text can also be downloaded from the Chicago COCAL Web site: www.chicagococal.org.

Academic Collective Bargaining

Jointly published by the AAUP and the Modern Language Association, this book examines collective representation, which has long been at the heart of academic governance. Essays in the volume explore the perspectives, successes, failures, and approaches of those who have collectively bargained so that readers can assess the pros and cons of unionization. Order it on the MLA Web site or by phone at (646) 576-5161.

Member Newsletters

AAUP members receive e-newsletters as a benefit of membership. If you are not receiving e-newsletters and would like to, please send us an e-mail.
