Oldest Practicing Professor?
By Gwendolyn Bradley
Ernest Kurnow, professor of statistics at New York University’s Stern School of Business, turned 95 in October. Kurnow has been on the NYU faculty since 1948; now retired from his tenured position, he teaches a fulltime load as an adjunct. Kurnow received a BS in 1932 and an MS in 1933 from City College of New York, and went on to earn a PhD in 1951 from NYU. Have we learned of the country’s oldest practicing faculty member? If you are aware of any competition, please let Nanette Crisologo in the AAUP’s Washington office know.
