International Applications Rising
By Gwendolyn Bradley
The number of foreign students applying to U.S. graduate schools rose between 2006 and 2007, but is still below 2003 levels at many institutions, according to a report released in August by the Council of Graduate Schools, which since 2004 has been surveying its members about applications and admissions. About 78 percent of institutions responding to the survey in both 2004 and 2007 still received fewer international graduate applicants this year than they did in 2003, and the collective number of international graduate admissions applications received by these institutions in 2007 is 19 percent lower than it was in 2003.
