Dictionary Society Endorses AAUP Policy
By B. Robert Kreiser
The executive board of the Dictionary Society of North America voted in fall 2005 to endorse the 1940 Statement of Principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure. In reporting on the society’s endorsement, the society’s executive secretary, Luanne von Schneidemesser, wrote that, “In today’s atmosphere of government secrecy and administrative stricture the tenets expressed in the statement are especially important to all universities and academics in our country. We thank the AAUP for its continuing efforts to ensure that academic freedom remains a part of our society.”
