AAUP Members Enjoy Summer Institute
By Julie M. Schmid
More than 150 AAUP members attended the Association’s annual Summer Institute held July 21–24 at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. “It was great fun seeing all of those folks with AAUP name tags on campus. Durham is just a sleepy New England town in the summer, so I hope everyone was able to lie back and enjoy a few days away from civilization,” says Deanna Wood, vice president of the UNH chapter. Workshops and seminars offered this year explored a selection of practical topics, including higher education data and research, contract negotiations, intellectual property, the faculty handbook, strategic communications, membership recruitment, graduate student organizing, and diversity on campuses.
Planning for next year’s institute is under way, and we invite you to help make it a success. If you believe that your college or university would be an appropriate site, or if you would like to suggest a venue, please contact Eizzie Smith at the AAUP as soon as possible. And start planning now to send a delegation of your chapter’s emerging leaders.
