Ford Foundation Starts New Grant Program

The Ford Foundation in April announced a new grant program designed to promote pluralism and academic freedom on campuses. Titled Difficult Dialogues, the program will support the development of academic programs that engage students in dialogue around contentious political, religious, racial, and cultural issues. According to the grant guidelines, the foundation aims to help colleges and universities create campus environments in which controversial subjects can be discussed "in a spirit of open scholarly inquiry and intellectual rigor and with respect for different viewpoints."
