Evangelical College Granted Accreditation on Appeal
The American Academy for Liberal Education, a national organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit liberal arts institutions and degree programs, granted preliminary accreditation to Patrick Henry College in November, after initially denying it. The evangelical Christian college had originally been denied preaccreditation, the step preceding full accreditation, because of its requirements that professors affirm a "statement of biblical worldview" and teach that God created the world in six twenty-four-hour days. The college appealed the denial and rewrote its requirements to emphasize that biology classes should include discussion of alternative views, although creationism should be presented as the strongest theory. Preaccreditation is granted for a period of five years.
