Corporate Model

To the Editor:

Joan Wallach Scott's discussion in the July-August issue of the dangers of a corporate model for university governance could not be better timed. If the past months have taught us anything, it is that the corporate model for governance is not only ineffective, but unimaginably corrupt and a bankrupt example for the national economy as well as higher education. As the examples of Enron and Worldcom show, all-powerful corporate management is a disaster for the public interest as well as institutional employees. It is time for university faculties and the AAUP to stop fighting a defensive action against these corporate management imitators; it is time for a declaration of war.
