Kansas Restores Evolution to the Curriculum
More than a year after a controversial decision to remove references to evolution from state education standards, a newly elected Kansas State Board of Education says it will approve new standards that restore evolution to the science curriculum. The AAUP, along with many other professional and academic associations, had criticized the board for its earlier action.
"I’m very pleased," says Bill Wagnon, a former president of the Kansas AAUP conference and a member of the Kansas State Board of Education. "The new standards we’ve adopted will put Kansas in the vanguard of science education."
