Fort Hays AAUP Chapter Expects Union Victory

In an October unionization vote, faculty members at Fort Hays State University in western Kansas selected the campus chapter of the AAUP as its collective bargaining representative. The victory for the union remained tentative, however, pending resolution of ballots challenged by both sides. The vote, tabulated by the state’s public employee relations board, followed several months of discussions on and around the 5,600-student campus about improving compensation and conditions for professors.
