Since 1915, the AAUP has been developing standards for sound academic practice. Each year, the AAUP receives thousands of questions about these standards and complaints of departures from them, particularly as they relate to issues of academic freedom, tenure, and governance. The staff provides advice, attempts mediation, and, in extreme cases, may recommend a formal investigation. Investigations are carried out by appointed committees of faculty members.
Reports of investigating committees from the past decade appear below in reverse chronological order. (You may also wish to read policy documents published in the AAUP's Redbook, or reports of AAUP standing committees.) Investigative reports prior to 1999 are not available online but may be requested from Nanette Crisologo.
