Protect Nondefense Discretionary Spending

The AAUP has joined with nearly three thousand national, state, and local organizations to support funding non-defense discretionary spending, or NDD. These programs reach every part of our lives, from public safety and infrastructure to research and education.

Unfortunately, many of these programs have seen their budgets cut in recent years, and they are currently threatened with even deeper cuts as a result of "sequestration," the name for the budget cuts imposed by last year's debt-ceiling negotiations.

The AAUP has signed onto a letter to members of congress, calling on them to find an approach to the budget which does not further cut NDD funding. You can read the letter here.
