Ypsilanti, MI, September 6, 2012 – The EMU-AAUP (the Eastern Michigan Chapter of the American Association of University Professors) voted overwhelmingly to approve the recent tentative agreement reached on August 17th by a vote of 288 to 7, or 98% approving the agreement.  The Board of Regents will vote on whether to approve the agreement at their meeting on September 18th.

The contract includes raises of 2% per year for each year of the contract, as well as changes in health care payments.  The contract also includes additional support and incentives for faculty research.

“Through this vote, the faculty has indicated that they strongly support the terms of the agreement.  The agreement contains many positive developments in the areas of faculty research and support, and faculty members are pleased not only with these results, but how the contract was settled early and with a spirit of cooperation between the faculty and administration.”

Moeller added that she believes “this can a renewal of positive faculty-administrative cooperation that will have long-lasting benefits for the students, faculty, and administration.”

As a member of the National Association of American University Professors and a member of the Collective Bargaining Congress, the EMU-AAUP chapter strives to protect the faculty’s right to academic freedom and ensure faculty governance exists and is upheld at Eastern Michigan University.
