AAUP Welcomes New Editor for Journal of Academic Freedom

The AAUP is pleased to announce a new editor for the AAUP Journal of Academic Freedom, Ashley Dawson, who will begin with the 2013 volume of the JAF. Dawson is a professor of English at The Graduate Center, City University of New York. His scholarly work covers many topics, including imperialism, ecocriticism, globalization, postcolonial studies, and academic freedom. He has published one book, has a second forthcoming, and has co-edited three additional books. He has also published many book chapters and journal articles.

The JAF was established in 2010, filling the need for a single publication focusing on issues of academic freedom. It is published online in order to accommodate longer articles and reach a broader audience. The JAF was started by now-past AAUP president Cary Nelson, who edited it until this year. Nelson says of the new editor that “Ashley brings an impressive range of cutting-edge intellectual interests to the editor’s job. He will assure the JAF is necessary reading for all who care about higher education.”

The third volume of the JAF was published in spring 2012 and is available online at http://www.academicfreedomjournal.org/index.html
