July 24–27, 2008
University of Rhode Island at Kingston
The University of Rhode Island AAUP Chapters will host the 2008 Summer Institute at the Kingston Campus July 24 – 27, 2008. Nicknamed the “Ocean State,” Rhode Island boasts of its beaches and having the nation’s largest concentration of historic landmarks.
Located in southern Rhode Island, URI is a quintessential New England campus. It’s close to the city, but provides a rural town feel. Built in the historic village of Kingston, the 1,200-acre campus features a mix of classic granite buildings and contemporary architecture. Student enrollment at URI is over 15,000, 12,000+ students on the Kingston campus and 3,000 in Providence. The faculty of 700 offers over 100 majors in seven degree-granting colleges.
All Summer Institute seminars and most of the workshops will be held in the Memorial Union. As the "living room" of the college, the Union provides services, conveniences, and amenities members of the college family need in their daily life on campus and an informal setting for getting to know and understand one another outside the classroom.
Opening activities on Thursday, July 24 include seminars and a welcome dinner. Summer Institute concludes on Sunday, July 27 with breakfast and a panel discussion. Your registration fee entitles you to:
- Roundtrip ground transportation between T.F. Green Airport (Providence) and URI
