AAUP Restructuring Information and Materials

The AAUP is planning a reorganization in order to create three interlocked entities under one AAUP umbrella. This change will better align our legal status with our evolving activities, our evolving membership, and our ambitious aims for future programs and services. The restructuring was overwhelmingly approved at the June, 2008 annual meeting.

As part of this reorganization, constitutions were drafted for each of the three entities. At the annual meeting in June, the AAUP membership voted to approve the constitution of the AAUP. Delegates to the June meeting of the Collective Bargaining Congress voted separately to approve the new AAUP-CBC constitution. The decision to create the AAUP Foundation rests with the elected national Council, the body with financial oversight responsibility for the Association.  The Council has voted to approve the creation of the Foundation and approved its constitution as well.

On June 24, 2008, AAUP President Cary Nelson sent this e-mail message to members announcing the passage of restructuring. As noted in his message, the restructuring, including the changes to the AAUP constitution and the CBC bylaws, is contingent on certain favorable rulings from government authorities. In addition, the implementation will not occur until AAUP governing bodies decide that the national office systems are ready for the restructuring.

Any comments or questions may be sent to acting associate counsel Nancy Long.
