Getting Started
Please read this first, as it gives information about scheduling appointments and accessing the necessary preparatory materials.
Issue Briefs for AAUP members
The two main lobbying themes for 2009 are:
1.) Yeshiva
AAUP is seeking a legislative solution to the 1980 Supreme Court decision NLRB vs Yeshiva University, the decision that makes it difficult for faculty at private institutions to organize on the grounds that they are "managers"
2.) Direct Loans
AAUP supports the Obama administration's proposal to eliminate the federally subsidized student loan program and expand Direct Loans to cut costs.
One-page issue memos on other topics of interest to members are also posted below, but please remember to stick to ONE or TWO subjects in your meetings. If your state delegation decides to cover one of the additional topics, please make it in lieu of either Yeshiva or Direct Loans. As always, make sure everyone representing your state conference has coordinated ahead of time to present an organized and unified message!
